Driver's Ed - Eligibility
Driver’s Education is available to all Central Davidson area students. Below are the requirements for students to attend Driver Education (DE) classes at CDHS
Central Davidson MS/HS students: May sign up and take DE at Central High School
Attending Public School other than Central Area: If you live in Central's attendance zone but attend pubic school somewhere else, you must sign up and take DE at the school at which you attend.
Valley Academy (YVRCA) - Students attending YVRCA but living in Central High's attendance zone may sign up and take DE at Central High School
Early College (DECHS) - Will take DE at Early College
Home School - May take DE at Central High, must live in CDHS attendance zone. A current copy of the student's Official Non-Public Home School Registration Record and proof of residency in Central's attendance zone will be required on the first day of class.
Private School - Must sign up for DE in the attendance area that the private school is located (NOT where they live). For example, a student who attends Sheets Christian Academy, but lives in the CDHS attendance zone, will sign up through Lexington City Schools
Students must be at least 14 ½-years-old on the first day of their selected class to be eligible to participate in the Driver’s Education program.
Students are strongly encouraged to register for classroom instruction as soon as they become 14 ½ years of age. Every effort will be made for them to receive the behind-the-wheel training by their 15th birthday.
Students who have dropped out of school are NOT eligible to take DE, nor are they eligible to obtain a Learner's Permit or NC Driver License until age 18.
